ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide. The site was designed by Leap in Cornwall as part of Shelterbox’s brand identity. Devstars took over in November to build the site and CMS. A slimmed down CMS has been built for the overseas partners so they can update local news and their own features while still pulling in global news and deployment information from the UK HQ.

1GOAL is a charity fronted by Queen Rania of Jordan and Sepp Blatter with the goal to put pressure on world leaders to provide education for 72million children by 2015. It doesn’t cost anything to join 1GOAL, all that is needed is your name and email.
The site uses an IP db to detect the users country and language and then provide relevant info back to the user. For example visitors from Brazil are more likely to see Robhino.
The site is built using content delivery networks (CDN), sprites and minfied JavaScript to optimise for heavy traffic loads and ensure fast page loading.
Were also using Amazon’s Elastic cloud computing service to host the sites with a server cluster that shares visits of 3 virtual dedicated servers. This gives the site capabilities to accept over a million visits/day.

New Blood Art were on their second developer and had spent over a year having their new site built when we were hired to take over development. The existing code was unworkable and we set about coding the site from scratch. Development this time round took a little under a month and costs were a fraction of what had already been spent. The site utilises our own e-commerce engine but builds in some bespoke tools to show relative sizes of the art for example along with auto emails so artists know when they have sold a piece.

9 years ago we built Sarah Kayes first web site to display the work of their hugely talented Photographers and Stylists. A few years later we added a custom CMS but the front end remained the same until we finally got the call a couple of months back to do a complete rebuild and redesign.
It was long overdue but we were finally able to make all those little tweaks we’d dreamed of. We’re strong believers in keeping things simple and especially with a photography site where you don’t want things distracting from the photos.
We’ve used a simple filter mechanism so visitors can view by Photographer (or Stylist) and category or a combination of the 2. Sarah Kaye can update images themselves or create logins for the photographers so they can manage their own photos.
Full size images can be browsed through or you can just sit back and watch a slide show. Visit the site to see some great images…

We have been both an advisor and web provider for Sandbag. The task was to remove bottle-necks from their e-comm set up and help streamline their work flow. From research into SAP, Sage, Magento, Drupal and Bar-coding we have all come a long way to find a solution. As a consultant Devstars have provided guidance and project management throughout the task which is still on-going. Watch this space!

Over the past few months we’ve been working with G4S to develop a brand new subscription based security site offering reports and email alerts to business people travelling the world.
The site provides travellers with up to the minute security briefings, latest news, country reports and threat ratings along with email bulletins that can be customised by the users.
The Google maps API is integrated throughout so each news item or alert can be geo tagged to provide an at a glance overview of the users area.
Working closely with the team at G4S and brand guardians Stylus, we focused on information architecture and usability both for users and admins.
Most recent additions to the site have been a flash sales presentation and integration of e-commerce and region breakdowns for countries.

Generally we write our own CMS’s but this time round we were asked specifically for a reskinned WordPress site. WordPress gives you a quick route to market but most blogs do tend to look like, well blogs and our first task was to address this issue with our good friends at Mystery Brand Design. A snazzy front end was design and built around a 960 px grid, using dhtml and javascript to bring movement and accordian style navigation. One of the great things about WordPress is the large number of plug-ins which can be used to add functionality like analytics tracking, twitter feeds and links to social networking sites.
